Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory - Solar Physics Group (Azerbaijan)

Description: Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory - Solar Physics Group (ShAO/SPG) and collaborators have strong experience of academic research, high administrative capabilities and experience in management, leadership and supervision, especially with young scientists; experience in establishing international contacts and enhancing research programs, securing funding and research grants; background and preparation suitable for undertaking multidisciplinary research projects and providing effective guidance, so on. We have well established infrastructure for conducting heliobiological experiments, to handle necessary ecological and medical data, theoretical background and good auxiliary staff for experiments and data processing. Almost all of members of Azerbaijani team are able to conduct data processing, to carry out analysis.

Azerbaijani team has established strong ties with colleagues from different parts of globe. They could be tracked through published joint papers (see: below). We have established international collaborations in the field of solar physics, solar-terrestrial relations, space weather studies, joint researches with colleagues from Israel, Russia, Bulgaria, Belgium, Greece, Ireland, India, Turkey, USA, etc. Azerbaijani team has such advantages as establishing the first solar-terrestrial relations and space weather studies school in Azerbaijan, conducting of studies of solar and geomagnetic activities influence on human health state, particularly, human physiological and cardio-vascular health states, organizing of collaborative heliobiological experiments in middle latitudes, researches on possible impacts of space weather changes on electric power supply systems in region, morphological studies of scintillation of microwave radio signals and its dependence on solar and geophysical activities, so on. It should be noted that activities of Azerbaijani team were included in UN IHY-2007 Report published in 2008. There are recently established the Laboratory of Heliobiology and Department of Physics of Solar-Terrestrial Relations in the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. “Sun and Geosphere”: The International Journal of Research and Applications is also published in Azerbaijan (www.shao.az/SG)
